About Us
Explore how our church community first formed, where we are now, and our goals for the rest of 2025.

Our Mission
Our mission is to be the spiritual cornerstone in the Peel Region, preserving the ancient Orthodox Tewahedo faith and providing a lively and welcoming spiritual home for our community. We serve as a holistic haven providing essential spiritual guidance and social support to empower primarily Ethiopian and Eritrean immigrants, ensuring successful Canadian integration while maintaining their cultural and spiritual identity.

Our Pillars
Eternal Faith & Worship: Nurturing souls through liturgies, Bible studies, and prayer that honor our heritage.
Community & Integration: Strengthening families, combating isolation, and overcoming barriers through spiritual guidance, language classes, and social dialogue.
Empowered Legacy: Bridging generations through education and cultural preservation, ensuring a future of belonging, equity, and spiritual flourishing.

Our Journey
Debre Selam Saint Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Peel Region is a registered church in Mississauga as of March 2025. It is under the Eastern Canada Diocese led by Archbishop Abune Demetros.

St Michael EOTC - Peel Region first began to form informally when a group of Tewahedo Christians came together at a community BBQ event in August 2024. Since August, our members have been growing quickly, and by the Grace of God, we have been able to organize several in-person gatherings and start a weekly prayer program on Sunday evenings led by Megabi Haddis Kesis Abraham. To join our weekly prayer program, please share your contact information using the form here.

Community BBQ Event (August 2024)

In May 2025, we raised over $30,000, allowing us to move onto the next phase of our journey, which is to rent or buy a space for our church. On September 13, we officially planted our new church with a big celebration at the Canadian Coptic Centre, attended by over 300 Tewahedo Christians. On September 20, we began our regular weekly services at the Dixie Presbyterian Church in 3065 Cawthra Rd, Mississauga, ON, which we are happy to call our temporary church home.

We still need support to raise enough money to rent our own space to be able to hold services freely without restrictions. This can only be possible through your donations. We are sincerely grateful for all those who have contributed their time, energy, and/or money up to this point and prayed for St Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church.
